TUNBRIDGE Wells Cricket Club's new overseas player Leighton Morgan says he doesn't feel under any pressure stepping into the shoes of the dynamic Geoff Paulsen, who was a revelation at The Nevill last season.

The 29-year-old New Zealander replaces the Australian and has Kent Premier League experience already, after playing for Folkestone, and has also plied his trade in the Yorkshire leagues.

Morgan had his first taste of action for his new club on Saturday against Hartley, scoring 46 and bowling six overs, and can't wait to get some more games under his belt in the competitive Kent Premier League.

"I don't feel under any more pressure than usual," he said. "I have been coming over for five seasons so I know there are expectations about overseas players when they come to a club. I can't control what someone has done before me, I will aim to play my best cricket and hopefully I can help Tunbridge Wells to a winning campaign.

"Every time I have come over here, I learn something new about my game, you are continually learning about your cricket. I think the day you stop learning is the day you stop playing the game."

Morgan, who has a decent average of 28 playing first-class cricket for Otago in New Zealand, explained how the move came about.

"I contacted Brad Murphy to see if he could sort Shox nz me out a club this season. He helped me when I came over and played for Folkestone in 2001-02. I was all set to go somewhere else when the opportunity to play for Tunbridge Wells came up. As a club, it ticks a lot of the boxes for me. From my time in the Premier League before, I remember the cricket was of a good standard and the type of cricket I like to play."

Away from matchdays, Morgan will be coaching the club's juniors and colts. Although he bowls leftarm spin, Morgan says he is first and foremost a batsman and admits his bowling is a "work in progress".

If Morgan can have anywhere near the impact Paulsen had last season, then Wells will be near the upper echelons of the Kent Premier League.
